Course Objectives

This qualification reflects the role of individuals with the skills and knowledge to perform in a range of varied activities in the creative industries where there is a clearly defined range of contexts. Activities are of limited complexity with required actions clearly defined. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of mainly routine tasks in the creative industry sectors, work under direct supervision, and use limited practical skills and fundamental operational knowledge in a defined context. It is, in essence, a preparatory qualification that can be used as a pathway into CUF30107 Certificate III in Media.

There is no admission requirements for this qualifications

Course Requirements

To achieve a Certificate II in Creative Industries a total of FIFTEEN (15) units of competency must be completed. This comprises of FOUR (4) core units of competency plus ELEVEN (11) elective units of competency as detailed in the training package rules.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and apply basic creative arts industry knowledge to industry practices, including industry structures and operations, employment obligations and opportunities, the impact of new technology, and identification of industry laws and regulations.

Apply work health and safety practices

Code - CUAWHS302 Contact Hours - 10
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to follow work health and safety (WHS) requirements in the creative industries. It applies to those who are required to identify their individual WHS responsibilities and implement procedures to work safely in various creative industry work contexts.

Work effectively with others

Code - BSBWOR203 Contact Hours - 15
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work cooperatively with others and deal effectively with issues, problems and conflict. It applies to individuals who perform a range of routine tasks using a limited range of practical skills, and a fundamental knowledge of teamwork in a defined context under direct supervision or with limited individual responsibility.

Code - BSBITU201 Contact Hours - 60
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop basic keyboard skills using touch typing techniques in a broad range of settings. It applies to individuals who perform a range of mainly routine tasks and generally work under direct supervision using limited practical skills and fundamental knowledge.

Apply critical thinking techniques

Code - BSBCRT101 Contact Hours - 20
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use fundamental critical thinking skills in work and life situations. It applies to individuals who need the capacity to think critically, ask essential questions and consider answers to those questions.

Assist with basic camera shoot

Code - CUACAM201 Contact Hours - 30
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assist with setting up and shooting low-budget, low-end single-camera video productions. It applies to individuals who work under the direction of a qualified camera operator on pre-production and production tasks, including shooting footage with basic camera equipment.

Perform basic sound editing

Code - CUASOU202 Contact Hours - 30
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for basic digital sound editing. It applies to individuals working under supervision who are responsible for preparing, assembling and digitally editing relatively simple sound sequences for media content. Individuals are expected to contribute to creative outcomes, including selection and acquisition of sound materials.

Assist with sound recordings

Code - CUASOU203 Contact Hours - 35
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake routine sound recording tasks using a variety of recording equipment in a studio or live environment. It applies to individuals who work under close supervision and have responsibility for assisting with setting up recording equipment, doing sound checks, monitoring the quality of recorded sound, labelling/logging recordings and solving routine problems that might occur during the recording process. Individuals in this role might work in a variety of creative arts industry sectors, including stage productions, music recording studios, television, radio, film, video and online environments.

Perform basic vision and sound editing

Code - CUAPOS201 Contact Hours - 40
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform basic editing functions for screen productions. It applies to individuals responsible for digitising, cutting and logging pre-recorded image and audio content under the direction of an experienced editor. Within clearly defined parameters, they also edit content using the basic functions of editing software.

Develop basic audio skills and knowledge

Code - CUASOU201 Contact Hours - 40
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to complete basic audio tasks in a range of production contexts. It applies to individuals assisting with audio operations in the screen, media and entertainment industries. At this level, they are working under the direct supervision of experienced sound technicians and operating equipment at a basic level.
