Course Objectives

This qualification enables learners to use a range of skills and techniques to produce art and craft works. They have the ability to select, adapt and transfer skills to different situations. Job outcomes are limited at this level.

There are no admission requirements for this course.

    Course Structure

    To achieve a Certificate III in Visual Arts a total of TWELVE (12) units of competency must be completed. This comprises of FOUR (4) core units of competency and EIGHT (8) elective units of competency as outlined in the packaging rules and listed below.

      Statement of Attainments

      A Statement of Attainment is issued by a Registered Training Organisation when an individual has successfully completed one or more units of competency from nationally recognised qualification(s)/course(s).

      An individual can be issued with this if they have not completed and do not intend to complete the entire qualification(s)/ course(s), as per the completion rules for the specified qualification(s).

      Course Fees for NT Residents

      Students will be liable to pay the VET Tuition fee of:

      This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to participate in workplace occupational health and safety (OHS) processes to protect workers own health and safety, and that of others.

      Develop drawing skills to communicate ideas

      Code - CUVACD201A Contact Hours - 50
      This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop simple drawing techniques for representing and communicating ideas. It does not relate to drawing as an art form. In a work or learning context this unit may relate to visually communicating ideas about objects, as well as the use of space, narratives or the steps in a process.

      Produce creative work

      Apply knowledge of history and theory to own arts practice

      This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to use basic textile techniques to produce creative work.

      Produce work that expresses own Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity

      Code - CUVATS302A Contact Hours - 100
      This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to appropriately express own cultural identity through artistic practice. The local cultural knowledge necessary to achieve competency in this unit may only be accessible to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples. This unit also reflects the fact that there is no single Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander culture.
        This unit deals with complex and interrelated elements of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultures which are the cultural and intellectual properties of specific communities. These may only be interpreted by appropriate persons, e.g. those recognised by the local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community as an Elder or custodian of local cultural knowledge.
          Any organisation or individual planning to train or assess this unit would be expected to work closely with the local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community, for example through establishing a local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander reference group. In particular, it is vital to ensure respectful integration of any local cultural knowledge or protocols that will inform the implementation of the unit.

          Produce textile work

          This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to produce textile work through the exploration and application of a range of techniques, tools, equipment and materials.

          Select and prepare creative work for exhibition
