Course Objectives

CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are currently working in early childhood education and care settings in the Northern Territory, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. These services include: - Budget Base Funded early childhood education and care services (BBFs) - School based early education and care settings (Preschools, Primary Schools and Families as First Playgroups) - Playgroups (e.g. Save the Children, World Vision, Good Beginnings) - Mobile playgroups/play schemes - Family support programs

Course Requirements

To achieve a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care a total of TWENTY EIGHT (28) units of competency must be completed. This comprises of TWENTY THREE (23) core units of competency and FIVE (5) elective units of competency as outlined inthe packaging rules. This program assumes that candidates are already employed in the early childhood sector or are linked with an early childhood service for work placement under appropriate supervision. Candidates are expected to comply with the workplace regulatory requirements and work placements should provide the appropriate supervision and guidance from individuals in the workplace and trainers and assessors from Batchelor Institute. Candidates will be required to provide evidence of a Working with Children Clearance Notice as required by Care and Protection of Children Act (NT). This is also known locally as an 'ochre card'. All employees must have an 'Employment' category card.
